Beautifully
detailed with woven Celtic knotwork and triskelions (representing the trinity), this sterling silver Iona Cross has at its center a claddagh ring - the ancient symbol of love. The Iona cross is a design taken from the St. John's crosses found on the ancient Scottish isle of Iona, site of the first Scottish monastary, founded by St. Columba in 563 A.D. The circle in this design is variably felt to represent the eternal love of God for his children or the halo of the Sun or Son. Here, this circle detail is further enhanced by the claddagh detailing. This lovely cross measures just over 1 1/4" x 1 7/8", not including the bail with its 4mm opening in the measurements. It is brand new and marked 925 for 925/1000 pure sterling silver.
