First popularized
during the Crusades, the Maltese cross, with four crosses or points between the arms of a symmetric cross, was the symbol of the chivalrous and noble Christian warrior. The eight points were felt to symbolize the eight virtues of loyalty, piety, frankness, bravery, honor, contempt of death, aid of the needy and respect of the holy church. Here, this is beautifully represented in ornate sterling silver openwork accented with 5 sparkling 5mm CZ crystals. This striking piece measures just over 1 1/4" x 1 3/8", not including the bail with its 4mm opening in the measurements.
