The sriyantra
or sri yantra ('great object') is often used in Hindu tantric meditation. The design is born of nine interwoven triangles - four point upwards, representing Sakti, the primordial female essence of dynamic energy, and five point downwards, representing Siva, the primordial male essence of static wisdom. The joining of these create 43 smaller triangles which are the abodes of different gods, at the center of which there is a dot (known as the bindu). This resides within the outer rings of an eight-petalled lotus, enclosed by a sixteen petalled lotus, girdled in turn by two circles, all enclosed in a square with four doors, one on each side. The square represents the boundaries within which the deities reside, protected from the chaos and disorder of the outside world. Many find a path to inner calm, allowing their meditation to expand outward from the central bindi. Hopefully this pendant will help you find your own path to peace and understanding. This great piece measures 1" in diameter, not including the bail with its 4.5mm opening in the measurements.
