The cloisonne enamelling is hand applied in vivid shades of rose, blue, gold, amethyst, rust and emerald green with the brass base metal gleaming through in the raised accents. Cloisonne comes from the French 'cloisons' or partitions for the metal strips which border the vivid enamelwork. It is decorated with a charming design of a pair of butterflies in flight amidst delicate blooms of roses or peonies. This egg shaped butterfly piece has equally beautiful enamelling on all sides. This lovely piece measures 1 3/8" x 1 1/8" with the bail holding a chain up to 2.5 mm.
