This great sterling
chatelaine has a romantic openwork filigree design accented with the dark sparkle of genuine marcasites. Marcasites spangled the finest jewelry of the Victorian era - its dramatic dark sparkle was popular for its ability to catch the light of gas and candlelight which was popular in that period. There are three chains on this chatelaine pin to hold thimble or needle cases, pencils or other essentials of day to day life for the Victorian lady. This piece is marked 925 for 925/1000 pure sterling. It measures just over 7/8" x 1 1/8" not including the chains, of which the longest is 3 1/4".
