This wonderful
sterling matchsafe features a raised, Art Nouveau style mermaid on the front. The base has a recessed ribbed area on which to strike your matches. It could also be used as a pillbox or to hold other small treasures. There is a jump ring at the top so this could be worn on a chain or chatelaine. It is marked 925 for 925/1000 sterling and measures 2 3/8"x 1 3/4". It is of good, heavy weight.
