Elaborately decorated front and back with deep repousse scrolls and foliate Victorian styled swirls, this sterling silver matchsafe or vesta makes a lovely addition to any collection. The lid hinges open and snaps securely shut and there is a recessed striker area in the base. There is an attached bail so this could be worn on a chain or chatelaine. The size is not only perfect for matches, but can also hold toothpicks, a day's pills or other small treasures. This wonderful piece measures 1 1/2" x 2 3/8" and is marked 925 for 925/1000 pure sterling.
